September 8, 2009, off to Yellowstone

After two years of not using our trailer we have once again aired the tires, loaded the supplies and taken to the road. Our first outing was at the Oregon Coast with friends and then a two week period near Lapine, Or doing a lot of kayaking. Someday I'll come back to the venture with pictures.

But the now important trip is near and in Yellowstone. The plan if you want to call it a plan was to take 3 days driving. Well we got carried away and drove 400 miles the first day. I usually like to drive around 250 miles or 5 hours. So much for that. We stayed in Glenns Ferry at Three Island State Park in Idaho. It was a famous place for crossing the Snake River on the Oregon Trail. The River is verily visible and the Oregon Trail interpretative Center is the white building.

The road trip continues, however we take a side trip of the Freeway to Twin Falls, Idaho. Two things caught our interest. The first is the bridge crossing the canyon and river into Twin Falls. Seems to be a favorite place to paraglide from.

The second was Shoshone Falls. Now it may not look so great, but the water is low. Pictures of spring run off show the entire rock ledge covered with water.

We end the day at an RV Park in Idaho Falls. Kind of getting tired. But had to drive around and find the falls in the downtown area. While doing that we found this great water feature in the middle of a round about.

And then we finally found the falls. Not a trick photo, it was about 10pm when I took it. So not a lot of light.

The final day of road trip driving. We arrive at Island Park area which is about 20 miles from West Yellowstone. I had found on the internet Red Rock RV Park situated in the Henry Lake valley. It is about 5 miles off the highway and in the middle of nothing but grandeur country.
